Unplugging the garage door opener should really have no impact on the door staying closed or not. Plugging it back in is simply powering the unit back-up.
If it’s winter time, check for ice or snow build-up on the ground. Sometimes that will trip the safety system and the door will retract.
If this occurs in the spring, summer or fall, do two things.
If you have the safety system installed (the beam of light on each side of the door near the floor) make sure they are aligned and match, usually giving a green indicator.
Next, if the manual is available, check for adjustments that can be made rather quickly on the opener.
If this does not solve the problem, you will probably need to schedule service. If you’re in the Cincinnati area and need help, give us a call at (513) 821-5095.
