We receive calls all the time where folks tell us they are having issues with the safety beams. They indicate they have hit the remote 2 or 3 times, or hold the remote button down to override the safety beam and shut the door.

After repeatedly doing that, the garage door opener eventually stops working. The motor runs but the garage door will not open or close.

We usually find that there is relation between the safety beams not working properly and the opener eventually quitting. So it’s best to have someone look at the system.

The first thing we would suggest you try is replace the battery in the garage door remote.

If that is not the problem, the remote is most likely going bad.

However, there is a slight chance you are getting interference from another electronic device in, or near the house.
